Adopted

I had originally planned on blogging about joy, suffering, and the psalms. That blog will come, but here is what is on my heart today.

Galatians 4:4-7 ESV But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons. And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!” So you are no longer a slave, but a son, and if a son, then an heir through God

How do these verses make you feel?

This is not a sentimental statement. It is the core of the Gospel.

God sent His Son.

His only Son.

Born of the Virgin Mary.

Adopted by Joseph.

To be hung on a cross to die.

So that we can join His family.

And have new life.

This is not the plan just in case everything fails. This is THE PLAN.

Recovery

We are all recovering from something.

Addiction.

Divorce.

Anger.

Sickness.

Or

A bad relationship.

A hard day at work.

A harsh word spoken.

Life.

The definition of recovery:
1. A return to a normal state of health, mind, or strength.
2. The action or process of regaining possession or control of something stolen or lost.

Proverbs 4:20-22 My son, be attentive to my words; incline your ear to my sayings. Let them not escape from your sight; keep them within your heart. For they are life to those who find them and healing to all their flesh.

Romans 12:2 ESV Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

Psalm 28:7 ESV The LORD is my strength and my shield; in Him my heart trusts, and I am helped; my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to Him.

John 10:10 ESV The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.

Luke 15:3-4 ESV So He told them this parable: “What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he lost one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the open country, and go after the one that is lost, until he finds it?

Let Him recover you today. He can be your strength.

Children

If you want to have a extra special place in my heart, love my children. Hug them. Tell them they are handsome. Run to them if they are hurt. Hold them. Teach them.

Don’t you think God feels the same way?

Nothing frustrates me as a parent more than when the kids are not getting along. The inevitable scream (or screech in E’s case), followed by stomping of feet, hitting, etc. When they calm down and reconcile, maybe start sharing, it is wonderful.

Don’t you think God feels the same way?

In His Sermon on the Mount, Jesus says He came, not to abolish the Law or Prophets, but to fulfill them (Matthew 5:17). In Matthew 7:12 He says, “So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.” This is how we love. The next verse describes this way as narrow, but this way leads to LIFE!

If we love others, our Father is pleased. They are His children, just as we are His children. If we live peacefully with each other, sacrificing ourselves if need be, our Father is pleased. They are our brothers and sisters.

This not optional. This is LIFE!

John 10:10 ESV The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.
